History Present To Future

Until 1989 this magical building has privately concealed from the outside world its lovely gardens and stately yet charming rooms.

When Joy and Martin Cummings purchased Amberley Castle it was to fulfil their dream of transforming a Historic Castle into a fine country house hotel.

Their aim is to preserve the priceless air of peace and tranquillity which envelopes Amberley Castle whilst restoring the lands and buildings to their former glory.

The latest project has been the conversion of two 17th century stone buildings within the dry moat to form The Bishopric, five suites all with private lounges and en suite Jacuzzi bathrooms. Each has been named after the most influential Bishops, who have resided at Amberley in the past.
Joy's excellent design skills are reflected in the interior of the castle and the bedrooms are individually designed to compliment the architecture of each room. The Queens Room and Great Room offer sumptuous surroundings whilst reflecting an era gone by. Whilst the three individual lounges are perfect for relaxing in and sampling more of the castles superb hospitality.
Martin's forte is the enhancement of the grounds and formal gardens. His work has already transformed the grounds, making the entrance to Amberley Castle a stunning experience and the gardens a pleasure to explore.
The formation of the driveway between the two lakes that he created was just the beginning of Martin's overall plans for the landscaping.

The driveway will be lined with conical and spherical yews. An ornamental putting course will compliment the lakes, with a tennis court hidden behind an orchard.

The gardens continue to flourish under Martin's loving care and are a pleasure in all seasons.
